What is Learn-to-Skate?
It's a skating program that focuses on building a solid foundation of skating skills, that is designed for all ages and skill levels, from beginners to those with some prior experience.
What will my child learn?
Skaters will learn fundamental skating skills like forward and backward skating, turns, stops, and basic spins and jumps.
How many levels are there?
The program has seven stages, each focusing on specific skills such as Agility, Balance, and Control. Each Stage is represented by the Haudenosaunee clan system, starting from turtle and ending with wolf. Skaters will receive a certificate once a stage is complete.
Equipment Needed:
- Figure skates OR hockey skates. Laced leather skates are preferable to molded plastic skates or "Grow with Me" skates.
- CSA-approved hockey helmet is mandatory for all skaters in the program

Dress in layers, with long pants, mittens, and a warm sweater or jacket. Fleece lined splash plants are preferable over bulky snowsuits that can limit a skaters mobility.
Tiny-Tots VS Learn-to-Skate
Our Tiny-tots is for children ages 2-5 wanting to learn basic skating skills that will help them in sports such as figure skating, hockey & speed skating. The skater must turn 3 before the cut-off date (varies dependent on the season, summer or fall/winter).
Our Learn-to-skate groups are for children ages 6+ wanting to learn basic skating skills that will help them in sports such as figure skating, hockey & speed skating.
Tiny tots may be moved up to Learn-to-skate on the first day of skating if coaches believe that it will be best suited for them. If this is agreed upon by coaches and parent/guardian, the skater will be moved up and the price difference will be charged to meet the learn-to-skate pricing.
